UAB Pharmacy

Kelsey Blair

Why I came to UAB?

I wanted to work in a large teaching hospital in the Birmingham area. UAB was therefore a no-brainer. The reputation of this hospital in the state and community makes me proud to be a part of it.

KelseyOne thing I would tell a pharmacist interested in UAB

Aside from what you have to offer us, UAB has many opportunities to offer you as well. The extreme diversity of the patient population here allows our pharmacists to be involved in many different levels of patient care.

Tell about one event while working at UAB that has changed you?

The first time I counseled a patient being discharged from the hospital changed my view of patient care and the role that pharmacists play in it. As pharmacists, we fulfill a very specific need for our patients, and that is the ability to understand all details of their medication regimen. Our patients need to know as much about the medications they are taking as we do, and I take it as my personal responsibility to ensure this happens before a patient of mine leaves the hospital.

What are some characteristics of a UAB Pharmacist?

UAB pharmacists are among an elite group in the pharmacy world. They are meticulous, dedicated and enthusiastic about the care they give to their patients every day. They strive to always provide evidence-based practice through their diligence to continuing education in the ever-changing world of medicine.

What has surprised you the most about the support you've received as a Pharmacist?

As a UAB pharmacist, I know that I always have the support of our highest ranking managers behind me in any situation, whether it is a policy I am enforcing or a desire to attend a special training class. Our management bends over backwards to ensure that we have all the support we need to be confident in our decisions and recommendations as part of a healthcare multidisciplinary team.
